Belfast's Brian Magee defeated Stevie Maguire to win the vacant super middleweight title in The International Centre, Brentwood, Essex. Magee, the 6 foot southpaw from Lisburn, came into the fight with a record of 32-3-1, with an impressive 22 KO's. His opponent, Stevie Maguire (14-1-1), was no match for the experienced Magee, who stopped him by TKO in the 8th round.
Also in action was Ireland's Jason McKay (20-3-0), who lost out in his title bid to Darren Barker for the Commonwealth middleweight title. McKay retired in the 6th round.
