Belfast's Martin Rogan won a convincing points victory over Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison in London's Excel Arena. Rogan kept his undefeated record in tact with sheer determination and heart, getting the better of Harrison throughout the fight. On paper, Rogan who only had 11 professional fights, consisting of 30 rounds in total, and a distinct disadvantage in technical ability, should have been short work for Harrison, but Rogan showed the grit and will to win which led to his Prizefighter victory by negating Harrison's southpaw jab and hitting him with big uppercuts and right hands at every opportunity. Rogan had Harrison hurt on the ropes a few times during the fight and a KO looked likely, but Harrison held on long enough to see out the rounds. The referee, Ian John Lewis, scored the bout 96-95 for Rogan which was a bit generous to Harrison. Rogan surprised a lot of people who believed that Harrison's superior experience and technical ability would be a step too far for the 37 year old part time taxi driver. Martin Rogan now has a record of 12-0-0 and has been up against some tough and durable opponents, and now against the odds, he has the impressive scalp of Harrison on his resume.
