Amateur Boxing Technical and Competition Rules

Some of the technical and competition rules were amended at the AIBA World Congress recently which are to be adhered to in national and international competitions.

Some of the new rules include:

Number and Duration of Rounds
Senior males (Elite) - 3 x 3 minute rounds (Formerly 4 x 2 minutes)
Senior females (Elite) - 4 x 2 minute rounds (Formerly 3 X 2 minutes)

Walkover
When a boxer is present in the ring fully attired for boxing and this boxer’s opponent fails to appear after having been called out by the public address system, the bell has sounded and a maximum period of one minute has elapsed, the Referee shall declare the first boxer to be the winner by a “Walk-Over”. The Referee shall first inform the Judges and then summons the boxer to the centre of the ring and after the decision is announced, raise this boxer’s hand as the winner.
Boxers had a 3 minute time limit to enter the ring previously.
