Youghal Boxing Card - Jan 16th

Billy Walsh will make his ring comeback after a year long absence, on Jan 16th at Pobalscoil Na Trionaoide, Youghal, Cork.
Walsh, who has been inactive since winning the vacant Irish welterweight title by defeating James Gorman on points in Jan 2008, will face Lithuanian Tadas Jonkus (2-2-0), on a card which also features light middleweight, Pat Walsh and the three Cork based Cuban's, Mike Perez, Alexei Costa and Luis Garcia.

Mike Perez, the undefeated heavyweight prospect, will take on, Alex Mazikin from Ukraine. Mazikin will be a step up for Perez who has been bombing out his opposition to date, Mazikin has good amateur pedigree, he fought fellow Ukranian Vitali Klitschko in the amateurs and he also reached the quarter finals of both the Sydney and Athens Olympics.
In his professional career, Mazikin has 13 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw, one of these wins came by points decision win over fellow Ukranian, and at the time undefeated prospect, Valery Checkenev. In 2007 Mazikin lost to the unbeaten, heavy hitting Cuban, Odlanier Solis,(who has a similar style to Perez), by 1st round TKO.
This will perhaps be a chance for Perez to show his boxing skills aswell as his KO power against a decent opponent.

Update 11-01-09: This card has been cancelled.

Yeah it looks like an interesting one alright, it will be Perez' first fight with a boxer who is actually capable of beating him!
